It is at 14 places that registered in the World Heritage of UNESCO in Japan now. The cultural heritage is 11 places, and the natural heritage is 3 places. It is “World Heritage theater. ” that the theater space is set in the World Heritage of the Japanese whole country, and artists who represent our country unfold performing. More people understand World Heritage, and one of the activities that aim at the spread and the enlightenment of the movement of UNESCO.
UNESCO adopted “World Heritage Convention” in 1972. The purpose of a valuable cultural heritage is to succeed by worldwide cooperation to the next generation. Afterwards, “Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage” was adopted in 2003. The purpose is not to limit to a material inheritance, and to pass on a wide, intangible cultural heritage to future generations.
It is born, receives 60 years this year, and “Private UNESCO society” is centered, it starts from Nara and the Todaiji Temple great image of buddha lord in May, 2006, and the art project of “World Heritage theater” has been executed for three years it until 2008 in Japan in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the UNESCO establishment.
